Aug 20: Pointless fun or an exercise in hacking

It's Sunday afternoon and nothin' on TV and the weather isn't too nice. It's warm inside, and the web is my oyster. yep, it's time to do a little bit of browsing around.
I popped over to Rachel North London, a good read and an even better writer. Where upon I find that she is talking about a puzzle. A hackers puzzle to be more precise.

So here it is. the link to the hackers puzzle. If you're very good you should be able to do it in 10mins, so they say, I don't know who 'they' are so I wouldn't be able to vouch for them. But to set you mind at rest there are only 23 levels till you see your prize.
I got stuck at ojofuffo but remember who your friends are, Google and wiki they will provide many of the answers. In fact in real life they do help hackers find stuff that you didn't know about.

There you go, have fun. I may post the answers later, but as they said in the X-files, The truth is out there, somewhere if you know where to look and you know what your looking for etc...
I have been having a good look at my stats and have found that a lot of you passers by are looking for the word ojofuffo. Yes wasn't very nice was I ? I didn't provide any answer worst still I didn't even provide any clues as to how I found the answer. That's evil isn't it. But I'm a nice kinda guy and I'll give you a clue.

N I N E T E E N
O J O F U F F O

There, that's it, that's all you need to know except that you do the same for... Oh you know..
There, my deed of the day is done 8-)

I actually thought that OJOFUFFO was one of the easier ones (the harder one for me was the pope, because I'd never heard of him before and had to google before I knew what it was on about)

#3 - Andy Rambling 2006-08-25 15:06 -

it was that one that threw me the most. the others there was a quick and easy Google search. ;-)

ojofuffo means nineteen by replacing the letters to that previous ones
o becomes n
j becomes i and so on....so
the answer will be twenty in the same way

I got stuck on "sept" - as it came right after "acht-->neun", I was sure it MUST be French and tried umpteen possibilities before the coin fell in. "Buchanan" stumped me for a bit, too (I kept thinking of Pat B.), until great big wonderful Google gave me the answer, and if I weren't Greek by birth I probably wouldn't have gotten 'icosihenagon', but 'ojofuffo' was the one that required a bit of cheating. No, I didn't look it up in your blog, but already the Google listings mentioned something about "minus one letter", and that put me on the right track. All that on taxpayers' money, as I am an underworked civil servant...
